The aim of the third ball attack strategy is to get the opponent to misplay your service, so you can attack their weak return and finish the point.

Usually this involves:

  1. Varying the spins on your serves (topspin, underspin, no-spin, sidespin)
  2. Masking your spin (see the Coach Wiki page Hiding your Serve (Legally))

One way to execute this strategy is to serve short underspin serves, and then occasionally mix in a no-spin or sidespin serve. If the opponent misreads it as underspin, they will pop it up and give you the chance to smash or loop kill.

It helps to have many different types of serves so your opponent is always guessing. Don't just limit it to short underspin, and short no-spin.
