Nittaku Septear

Review of Nittaku SeptearComing from Yasaka YEO.At first, I thought this blade is another "7 ply blade" like DHS P7 or Stiga Clipper, but oh boy, I was wrong, by a large margin. As a player who always use 5 ply hardwood for more than 2 years, this blade offers more control than Yasaka YEO on both feeling and looping; however, this come at the cost of speed with additional spin on powerloop. As a result, this blade is loop monster OFF- blade. I still surprised that it offers almost the same feeling as Yasaka YEO that I don't have to adjust my technique to play it very well. The weight feeling wise is almost identical as YEO despite it is much thicker and heavier. The reason might come from the smaller blade area, so it has less area to put the rubber on. [Update] After I tried for almost a year, I would say that this blade does not match with classic rubber and chinese rubber. Those rubbers made this blade feels not have enough power to finish the point. I still like the feeling and control of this blade. So I will give it another try with tensor. Stiga Clipper

Review of Stiga ClipperFH Rubber: Donic Bluefire JP 02 Max (Black)BH Rubber: Butterfly Solcion 1.9 (Red) Changed from Ebenholz V, IMO I think it need very little adjustment to play effectively (looping game). The clipper is a bit more stiff but soft, yet it is still easy to loop. Smash and touch play are still excellent. (Edit Nov 2015) After using for more than 4 months, I still say the same that it is good blade to play for smasher and power loop drive player. However, I stopped using it and switched to 5 plys mainly on control issue on loop and touch play. Yet I still find that the blade is too thick and heavy for my preference and set up. Stiga Hybrid Wood NCT

Review of Stiga Hybrid Wood NCT"An OFF+ blade with many gears"Feeling wise, I don't think that the blade is more bouncy than hard wood blade such as Intensity or YEO. The blade is very stable on block and the speed of the block is very controllable just like ALL+ to OFF- blade. However, the rating is correctly stated as OFF+ when looping or hitting. The blade can generate more power to any distance from the table. Beware that for the close-to table looping, the blade angle has to be much closer comparing to 5-plys blade or the ball will definitely fly off the table. The blade feels not so hard on lower gear and hard on higher gear, but you get enough flex for looping. Although the blade is much thinner than my YEO, the weight of the blade limits the choice of rubber. I think the blade is best paired with medium to medium-soft rubbers. For reference, I use Yasaka Shinning Dragon max on the FH side and Stiga Mendo 2.0 on the BH. Jan 06, 2019

Xiom KATANA Platinum CP

Review of Xiom KATANA Platinum CPGear: Xiom KATANA Platinum - Chinese PenholdFH Rubber: BTY Sriver max BH Rubber: BTY Sriver 1.7 As a amateur penhold player with 2 years of experience. I have tested this for several weeks and here is my review. Overall, this blade is great for looper from middle distance from the table due to its softness. Comparing to other wood rackets, it require bit less effort to generate top spin loop. Although this blade is very fast, it is controllable at fast stroke due to above than average dwelling time. On touch play, you can easily control the ball on pushing and backspin chop. On the other hands, I find this is quite heavy and maybe its too heavy to do RPB loop or flick without proper physical traning (approximately 100g with no rubber). The thickness of the Hinoki maybe bothersome but IMHO you will get used to it easily Update #2: FH: Rakza 7 Soft Max Red BH Tibhar Norm 1.7 Black After using it for a while, I think the control of the blade from 9 is a bit over-rated due to its too much stffness. Although it still easy to loop with this level of stiffness. However, not all shot is guaranteed accuracy to drop on the table. (and some of the time it fly off the table). IMHO, coming from both carbon blade and 1-ply J-pen, this blade need a lot of adjustment in racket angle with soft rubber. In addition, back hand RPB plays is still trobling in fast shot due to its thickness and weight. Although I use light rubber for both FH and BH to reduce weight problem. Its thickness still bothersome for backhand RPB shot and sometime you can't get full swing because of it. In summary, I find this blade are excels at smashing, middle-long distance looping and blocking game. It will be too powerful in short game and touch play without proper adjustment in racket angle otherwise you cannot keep the ball in the place you want. Still, I do not recommend this blade for beginner, this blade is for someone who already have proper training in both physical and table tennis skill Dec 17, 2014

Yasaka Ma Lin Soft Carbon
|

Review of Yasaka Ma Lin Soft CarbonCurrent Setup:FH: Xiom Sigma I Euro Max Black BH: Tibhar Norm 1.7 Red At first, I bought this blade because it is on sales (c. $50) and want to try carbon-fibre OFF- blade which is suitable for my style (2-wings looper) hoping for excelent feeling from carbon-fivre and enlarged sweet spot. First Glance: I find that the blade weight is not too heavy and not too light (approx 85g). The blade itself has smooth finish at racket face, but it has rough finishing on the handle. When hitting a ball, it has a lot vabration if it does not hit at the center of the racket. I think the racket sweet spot is too small for carbon-fiber blade (IMHO, the sweet spot is less than ordinary wood blade at the same price). The control is ok and the blade itself with Xiom Sigma I Euro is not very fast but still acceptable. FH Loop: The blade provide needed dwell time to openning loop in close to the table game and generating needed spin in the low arc. In killing loop, it has enough speed to finish the game with enormous spin. IMHO, you will need extra effort to finish point in long-distance looping. FH Smash/Flick: This is the depart ment where the the flex blade does not excel with. The blade can really smash but it does not produce enough speed without enough effort to killing the game. BH Loop: With current setup, it does very easy to do opening loop against back spin. However, BH loop is no go to finish the point (Without return error from opponent) for this combination of rubber and blade. BH Smash/Flick: Since I use RPB for opening loop and positioning, I does not use my BH to finish game. Chop/Push: This blade can provide good control in short game, even it has some vibration on it, but I think it is a advantage to play low power shot/in the table shot. In summary, I think this blade is suitable in short-play in the table game. It is a good OFF- blade with considerable price and finishing quality. Dec 17, 2014

Yasaka Ma Lin Extra Offensive

Review of Yasaka Ma Lin Extra OffensiveBlade: Yasaka Ma Lin Extra Offensive (J.T.T.A.A ver) CSFH: Xiom Omega V Tour DF (max) BH: Butterfly Solcion (1.9) From all of my experience with TT blades, I used to used both carbon and all wood blades from many famous brand (DHS, Yasaka, Stiga, Xiom and Butterfly), yet I still find this blade is one of the most controlable blade yet powerful enough to finish point on close-medium distance to table plays. Im not sure how much weight mine is but it is surely lighter than Stiga Clipper WRB and it is more thinner. It is a bit thicker than Stiga Ebenholz V. However, it is more solid and has more touch. With my expereinced with this blades more than 6 months. I can safely say that it is very consistant blade that you can easily control ball placement on the table with any stroke (assuming that you got enough training). My BH rpb and FH opening loop rarely miss and it packs a lot of punch to finish point. Smashing is good but not good as those 7 plys or carbon but better than average 5 plys. It offers solid touch on push and service. Blocking is very consistant. However I never plays chop stroke as Cpen user, so I cannot really comment on that. To sum up, I think this blade is suitable on close to middle distance to table plays for offensive to control loopers. In addition, I think the price tags on this blade is reasonable to that now I buy 2 more blades for replacement. Nov 15, 2015
