Review of Butterfly Boll TriCarbonI've used many blades, and this one is by far my favorite. There are some who would say that the rubbers are what matter and not the blade. Well, let me tell you... this blade DOES make a huge difference. The Boll TriCarbon is rated to be the fastest of all Butterfly blades, and I must agree. Because of the three carbon layers and inner Balsa layers along with the hard outer Paduk layers, this blade really is very fast, but it also has amazing control for its speed. This comes from the super enlarged sweet spot due to the multiple carbon layers and the great feel provided by the balsa wood. The control itself isn't all that great in and of itself but, considering how fast the blade is, you can't really ask for better. The control it does have already FAR exceeds what can be expected of so fast a blade.I would say that allroud (control-based) or speed-based rubbers would work best with this blade. Any soft rubber would also work well. The control rubbers would greatly compensate for any lack in control you feel this blade might have. I personally use Yasaka Mark V with this blade, which I find to be a great combination. Speed-based rubbers like those from Butterfly's High Tension rubber class would bring out the best in the speed quality of this blade. Soft rubbers will automatically work to increase the control of this rubber no matter how fast. I do not imagine that this blade would work particularly well with spin-based rubbers unless they are soft. Medium to hard spin-based rubbers would not catch the ball optimally to make the fullest use of a rubber's spin quality because the blade is so fast that the ball will leave the racket all to quickly. With that said, I think it is also important to say that things may work differently for you. You may find that hard spinny rubbers work well for you, or you may not like TriCarbon at all. But one thing's for sure: For my game style Butterfly Boll TriCarbon is AMAZING, and I have not found anything better for me yet! Unless you do a lot of slow looping or are a defensive player, I STRONGLY recommend you try this blade :) One more thing: it's really not as heavy as it is advertised to be by Butterfly. Review of Butterfly Timo Boll ZLCJust got it, but it has been amazing. Great speed, but not too fast. Amazing control and flex for a carbon blade. Way expensive, but, hey, it was a Christmas gift. Review of DHS Wind CW-CThis blade is fast. It has 7 total plies (5W+2C), and it is extremely sturdy. This is the blade that I have used the longest, having dropped it and hit it against the table dozens of times, and still the blade has taken no notable damage from such injury. This is probably the blade that I improved with the most. Very fast. If used with hard rubbers like DHS Hurricane 2 or 3 or DHS Skyline TG3, this could prove to be a deadly weapon for over-the-table and close-to-the-table play. The only thing that could be said against this blade is that it is so hard (even harder than my Butterfly Boll TriCarbon mind you) that there is very little feedback at ball contact. As a result, inherend blade control is a little low although the carbon layers help to increase control by enlarging the sweet spot thereby increasing consisteny by a slight amount. This really is a good blade and an absolutely awesome value for the cost. I would even wager to say that although I think my TriCarbon is better quality, this one is a better value: retail price is only $29.00 as set by DHS.Dec 28, 2008 | |||||||||||||

Review of Donic Carbo System OFFENSIVEI really liked this blade for the most part, but the blade head is a little small, which didn't really fit my game. It is moderately fast and has decent feedback for a carbon blade. The feeling is pretty hard but I've felt harder. Probably best used with speed-oriented rubbers. Review of Yasaka Gatien ExtraOk ok ok...I will do my best to review this blade without bias because I really ended up not liking Yasaka Gatien Extra. You have to understand first that I almost only use carbon fiber blades (or Arylate/Carbon and the like); therefore, I don't usually take all that well to all-wood blades. At first, I really Really REALLY liked this blade. I used it with two Yasaka Mark V rubbers. It had very good control above everything else, and it really helped bring my game up. BUT it does not have the large sweet spot like most carbon blades offer. I will say that Yasaka Gatien Extra does have VERY good feedback vibration, but I prefer a harder feel. I guess it really just depends on your game because most people I find really like this blade. Don't get me wrong. I think it's great, too... a classic in fact, and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to explore different blades, wants to develop a style for the first time, or has a less aggressive completely balanced style with little emphasis on speed and spin and more emphasis on control (which is honestly outstanding). I guess, regrettably, it just didn't fit my game. A good friend and former trainer of mine advised me that for the Yasaka Mark V rubbers I was using at the time, I ought to use a more offensive and faster blade with a harder feel to gain full appreciation of the rubbers, and HE WAS RIGHT. I used Mark V with the fastest Butterfly blade yet, the Boll TriCarbon, and the Mark V played just perfectly. In conclusion, Yasaka Gatien Extra wasn't for me, but I still think its the high quality blade that would be perfect for some although not for others. Nov 27, 2008 | |||||||||||||
