I got this blade as an alternative/backup to my DefPlay Senso that has so many vibrations. This 980 blade is a modern oversized ALL+/OFF- 5ply wood blade. It isn't a classic DEF blade as it can be fast! I have managed to find one with ST handle and only 80grams that became 82gr after sealing it. It is very close to JSH blade but just a bit slower and with more control and of course a lot lighter than JSH.
I paired it with TSP Curl P1R (BH) and Yasaka Rakza7 Soft (FH) and became my favorite. Great at looping even from mid distance and EXCELLENT in chopping and blocking with feedback. I cannot believe that a 25$ blade can perform so good for a modern defender and now my DefPlay became my backup bat. If you are not only chopping/blocking and use your FH to attack and gain points then you need to try this blade.
Very light, fast, low dwell. Can be good for blocking and hitting but very bad for chopping. For sure not alternative for JSH and VKMO as some people say
I have been using this blade with long pips (Dawei 388D-1) and Palio hadou 40-42 playing modern defence . I enjoyed playing with this blade for the most part. I would’ve enjoy it even more if there were 1.8-2.0mm options for Palio Hadou instead of 2.15-2.20 which made a little bit uncontrollable for me. The shots would go longer than I intended. Combination with pips was pretty good, I had a lot of funky balls that were heading one directiona and when landed they completely changed direction which was confusing for my opponent. Blade isn’t fast but it’s not super slow either, a little bit too soft for my taste. FL handle is pretty comfortable for my bigger than average hands.
