Should be a defensive blade. Is not. Think more ALL+ Blade for modern defenders. Very controllable and the best: spinny, spinny, spinny. Play an OFF-Style with palio thor's. Very good blade also for chopping and blocking.
If you are learning modern defense or switching from classic defense, look no further than the Sword 309 Def. This is an ALL blade with ridiculous spin potential and paired with the right rubbers (I prefer Med hard to hard rubbers, since this blade is soft) you can go for the kill. I tried it with Dawei 388-D1 Pro, Palio CK531A, TSP Curl-P4 chop and Yinhe Neptune all in 0.5, except the Curl p4 which was 1.5. My favorite was the 388D-1, chops would go long and be quite spinny, and the short game was not very slow, while still being great for blocks and pushes.
Keep in mind this is a slow blade compared to most off- blades, so pairing it with soft rubbers or lps on the slower side hurts its modern defense atributes
Very good blade! Excellent for chopping with an inverted rubber. Chops fly with crazy spin. Control on both chops, blocks and counterdrives is also incredible. May be too fast for a classical defender but seems a good choice for modern defender or chopping all around player. But the large heavy handle can be inconvenient for a small hand.
