Review of 999 Super 999THard very tacky Chinese rubber with a decent throw and awesome spin if paired on the right blade. I tried this front and back on a Pg-8 and was not so impressed. The whole paddle was heavy and lacked power. Then I tried it on a stiga classic and it was really slow. I found it played best on an XVT balsa carbon OFF lightweight blade. Short game is good. Lots of control, can generate a lot of spin and a decent amount of pop on the topspin drives and loops. It is very tacky and needs to be cleaned regularly to maintain its consistency. It gets really powdered up hitting new balls. The throw is decently high and spin is exceptional. The speed is lacking and even the boosted version did not pick up any speed. Actually felt a bit deader after boosting which is unusual for any other rubber I have boosted before. The rubber lasts a good while and so does the tackiness. Goes down slowly over time. All in all decent rubber. I love the flat smashes it can pull, but has some weakness in block as the returns are too weak. Loop drive attacking rubber. I like it but it’s not my first choice.

Review of Andro Rasant GripGood rubber not as nice as Rasant. All around does everything pretty well. Tenergy 05 alternative. Similar throw and spin. Speed faster than T05.

Review of Butterfly Tenergy 05Amazing rubber. The best attacking FH rubber ever. Great spin and speed. Very hard to play against. Consistent and better for European style of play. Good for FH and BH. Tested on multiple blades. Spin sensitive, not very durable if rubbed into the table, but otherwise lasts a long time. Even a really old sheet of tenergy 05 still has the same throw angle, just slower and had less spin.

Review of Butterfly RozenaThe mighty Rozena. Rose petal soft top sheet and spring sponge similar to T05. Maybe a little softer. Faster than 05 maybe even faster than 80. Plays like an attacking monster. Can hit fast straight shots with less spin but serious speed. Lower throw angle than tenergies with a linear shot direction that barely makes it over the net with power shots. Backhand flicks are easy and fast and counter loops are tremendous. Looping heavy under spin takes a lot of effort for some reason, but when done right, produces exceptional topspin balls that barely make it over the net with serious speed. The rubber urges you to hit hard and flat but it can still loop well. It’s not bad at chops either. It’s less sensitive to incoming spin than the tenergies. Also it’s harder to generate spin, but with the power it manifests, spin becomes less essential. Good BH and forehand rubber.

Review of DHS Gold Arc 8Fast rubber. Not for the faint of heart. For attacking players. Doesnt loop well. Counter attacks awesome and counter smashes even better. Doesnt play well with chinese style. More European style rubber. Acts a bit like a speedier Tenergy 05. Really bounces off the rubber fast and deep. Easy to hit long with slight shift in angles. Sensitive to incoming spin. Tested on a DHS power PG 12 Off++ paddle.

Review of DHS Gold Arc 5Ah Gold arc 5.. one of the first rubbers I ever used. I came back to it after a several years of chasing butterflies... I play with the medium hard version on backhand, on an XVT balsa carbon blade. The rubber is linear, non tacky, medium hard, non-tensor, relatively controlled rubber with medium high throw, a significant amount of speed and a moderate amount of spin with some susceptibility to spin as speed of the ball increases. The rubber plays everything pretty well from blocks, flicks and smashes, but it doesn’t chop well. It has a enough speed to put away the point. Rubber is best for attacking players close to mid distance from the table. Turns backspin well enough to loop and the porous sponge has a decent springiness in it to keep up with the high end rubbers. Rubber is grippy, maybe less grippy than gold arc 8 but enough to brush the ball with speed without slip. The only weakness I noticed is as the 4th to 5th ball come back, and spin increases through the returns, the angle of the racket has to compensate more and more compared to tenergies to the increasing spin and is vulnerable to a spinny 5th ball.

Review of Kokutaku 868 Spin PowerI think this rubber is not on the ITTF list of allowable rubbers anymore. Don’t know why.. it’s a nice rubber. Power green sponge. Great for fast loops and power plays. Tacky sheet, medium heavy with a decent pop in the shots. Good amount of spin. Just doesn’t last forever.

Review of Yinhe Mercury III EUROThis is a non tacky Chinese rubber with a medium throw and medium-high speed at a cheap price.. This rubber is an impressive rubber for the price. I can’t generate the speed of a tenergy rubber but it plays like a quieted down version of tenergy 05, or even like an old 05 that’s worn down its speed some. It has impressive control over really fast rubbers but can still generate enough speed to win the point outright with enough of a swing. It doesn’t take as much effort to generate speed as hurricane 3, but is also less spinny than most Chinese rubbers. It’s weaker farther from the table as the lower throw makes it hard to clear the net. Short game is reasonable and easy to loop backspin. Not very spin sensitive either. Don’t stack this rubber onto any tenergy series rubbers as the tenergy has some oils in them or something that damages the surface of the Yinhe rubbers in only a few hours. (This also happened to Yasaka Mark 5; placing it onto a tenergy rubber for a while ruined the surface).

Review of Yinhe Mercury IINice rubber. I play with an OFF lightweight 1cm thick XVT balsa carbon blade. Ratings are for the rubber BOOSTED.
I planned to try this rubber initially on the backhand side with gold arc 5 on the forehand. I now use it on both sides. I got the medium soft version. Out of the wrapper, the rubber is soft, medium tacky and slow. Like a soft slow Chinese rubber. It has minimal power and spin is medium too. Throw angle was also medium at best. It is a slow, controlled rubber with decent dwell but no real power.
HOWEVER, the beauty of this rubber comes out once boosted. After applying 2 layers of Falco Tempo Long, the rubber comes to life. It possesses the same characteristics at slow speed as before boosting: lots of control, amazing short game, accuracy at soft shot placement, but with the boosted sponge you get a bunch of more gears. The rubber is amazing now! It can play everything from the slowest drop shots, to an unreturnable smash and the ability to vary said speed in match play is exceptional. It blocks power shots with no effort and puts them back with medium high pace and medium throw. All in all it is awesome for an allround style of play.. The balance of power and control is perfect in this rubber, just has to be boosted to get there. 8 bucks for a sheet and it is worth every penny.
