Donic Desto F3
Review of Donic Desto F3I've been playing with this rubber for many years, both in FH and BH. It's a really good choice for topspin-based attacking players.Control is quite good for an offensive rubber. Desot F3 isn't that good at generating spin but not bad either for a european rubber, and it has definitely enough speed for efficient attacking/winning strokes. It's definitely my "base" rubber and I would advice it to any topspin attacker. Sep 09, 2013

Donic Desto F3 Big Slam
Review of Donic Desto F3 Big SlamI've been playing with regular Desto F3 for many years, and tried this one last year as I was looking for something softer to associate with my new blade.F3 BS is close to regular F3, but softer and a bit slower (you can especially feel it on attacking strokes that come back more often), but it's still fast enough to deliver winning strokes. It's really soft and thus, dedicated to topspin attackers, even more than the regular F3. Therefore, smashing and hitting the ball flat won't be the strong point of this rubber, due to the really soft rubber. Sep 09, 2013

Friendship/729 Focus 3 Snipe
Review of Friendship/729 Focus 3 SnipeLike many chinese rubbers, this one comes in different hardness : I'm playing with a 42° one (though I'd say it feels more like 40°), 2.1mm thickness, on my BH. It's a european-style rubber, nothing close from a chinese hard-and-tacky rubber.Seems to be a pretty versatile rubber : it reminds me a lot of Sriver FX I used to play with, but a bit faster. Not too fast, not tacky and not that spinny either (say, nothing better than a european rubber such as Desto F3, but still decent), and a pretty good control. The topsheet seems of a medium hardness, which makes this rubber suited for almost any kind of player. It performs well on every stroke : topspin, blocks and counter-attack, backspin strokes... I just wouldn't advise it to attackers who are used to playing further from the table, as it wouldn't be powerful enough to deliver attacking strokes. I'm not yet sure if I'll keep it for the whole season (waiting for a LKT Rapid Sound as well), but I definitely won't have any issue using this rubber for tournaments and official competitions. Kokutaku 868 Training Rubber
Review of Kokutaku 868 Training RubberTraining version is really cheap, but still, quality is quite good for this price. I've been using them for about 1 year before they became too worn out. They're basically pretty good rubbers if you want to learn or practice, and don't want to spend too much money (maybe to build good bats for beginners, for instance). Throw angle is medium-high, nothing extreme, same for tackyness, medium tacky so that does not affect too much the way this rubber is played. It's reasonably fast, even with an all+ blade. I've had two versions of the sponge so I'm not so sure about the consistency, but for this price, you can't really complain.I'm used to playing with Xiom Vega or Xiom Omega, and LKT Rapid rubbers, but I had to build some bats to play almost daily with colleagues for fun, and I've been using these cheap rubbers with much pleasure. I intend to buy another set of those 868 rubbers pretty soon to "refresh" our bats. Jun 03, 2016

KTL (LKT) Rapid Sound
Review of KTL (LKT) Rapid SoundFirst of all, really good build quality for this rubber, especially considering its price. I've used it on different blades (mainly OFF-), in 2.2mm then in 2.0mm.This rubber is slightly tacky, and allows to generate a good amount of spin for me, be that in game or for serving. It is quite dynamic for a Chinese rubber, not too hard to adjust even if you're used to European rubbers as I was. The hardness feels medium, I'd say around 37-38° (it seems to depend a lot on the blade you glue it onto : felt really hard on my Stiga OC, but it's alright on my Waldner Senso and Diablo senso blades that are softer). I like it a lot as it's really versatile, pretty good for controled offensive play : it's not that fast but offers a really good control and allows to generate an interesting amount of spin. As someone already said, it might not be a "killer-rubber", but really does everything well. To sum things up, it's a good, versatile and not too expensive off- rubber, I think it's really interesting for young and off-/all+ players who like to develop a versatile offensive play (but leaning toward controlled topspin play). If your play is more blocking, flat-hitting and choping, then you might be interested in testing the LKT Rapid Speed. Apr 08, 2016

KTL (LKT) Rapid Speed
Review of KTL (LKT) Rapid SpeedLike all LKT Rapid rubbers, this one has a nice build quality. The topsheet is slightly tacky when new, and remains slightly tacky after that.I first played this rubber non boosted, on the backhand of an OFF- blade (Waldner Diablo Senso). This rubber is quite spinny, even on "soft" contacts thanks to the slight tackiness, which makes it very good for short spinny serves, and for spin in general. It can be pretty fast but is not really dynamic, so you have to put your arm and your body into the stroke to get a high speed, on an OFF-blade at least (I guess it would be easier on a more offensive blade, have to try it on a Clipper sometime). The medium-hard sponge makes it really good for blocking and flat hitting. Throw is medium, I like it on my backhand. I tested it again last week, PO boosted (2 layers only). It was far easier to use, a bit more dynamic and then less demanding for topspin strokes. A bit softer and more sensitive to incoming spin as well, but not that much. I really liked it and I think it's gonna be my new backhand rubber, in place of my current LKT Rapid Sound. Apr 08, 2016

KTL (LKT) Pro XP Red Dragon
Review of KTL (LKT) Pro XP Red DragonI didn't quite know what to expect from this rubber. I've played quite a while with LKT Rapid Sound / Speed, and tried LKT Pro XP on a friend's bat once. This one is a bit different.First, the mousse is red and porous, quite different from the previous rubbers. It's quite firm, firmer than Rapid Sound or Pro XP "classic", closer from the Rapid Speed (but again, different kinds of rubber, traditionnal for the Rapid Speed, porous for this one). It remains quite lightweight, weight is same than Rapid Sound in same thickness (50g for a 1.8mm sheet). I've been using it on my RPB backhand, and so far, it feels quite good. Pretty grippy, so even though spin is not that high, it's feeling quite easy to pick up the ball on controlled topspins. As the rubber is firm, you do not lack power as you sometimes do with softer rubbers : it's not rocket-fast, but it's pretty decent, I'd say around OFF-. I'd say it's in between the Rapid Sound for the medium-high throw angle and feeling, and Rapid Speed for the firmer rubber and therefore a bit more power available (but less "direct" and less spinny than Rapid Speed). However, it's still an OFF- rubber, do not expect high speed winning shots away from the table, you'll be lacking some speed there. Anyway, looks like a good controlled-offensive rubber to me. I'll keep this updated after I've played a bit more with it. Jan 29, 2017

Sanwei T88-I
Review of Sanwei T88-IQuite a good Chinese rubber, especially at this price. The rubber is very heavy (2.0mm, 39° : 65g). Mine was just slightly tacky, and eventually not that spinny, whereas other players I know got much more spinny ones, so I guess there might be production issues from time to time. However, it plays well. Really good control (it's pretty slow when you're passive), speed is alright on regular strokes but really goes up when you engage your arm and body for more active topspins. Don't expect this rubber to do the work for you, it's nothing like european tensor rubbers... but still has lots of qualities. Would suit OFF blades better if you're an offensive player, speed wouldn't be sufficient otherwise.Mar 04, 2014

Sanwei T88-III
Review of Sanwei T88-IIII use it on the backhand of my W6 CPEN blade (using it for RPB topspin mainly, and blocks from time to time). I'm quite surprised by the speed, far from an "allround" rubber as far as I'm concerned : I'm used to playing with Rapid Speed on my backand and this is at least as fast, maybe even a tad faster. The tackiness is present but not overwhelming, the grip is very good (however careful, grip seems to vanish in high-humidity conditions). You can also impart quite a good amount of speed with this rubber, it's not a rocket but totally enough. The sponge is firm, but not brick-hard, perfect for me on a hard enough blade. Throw angle is medium-high for me, therefore there's no problem for topspinning away from the table (speed and throw angle are high enough).Overall, not a top-notch rubber but it does a really decent job : I didn't really appreciate the T88-I but this one I like a lot more. It seems there are some variations in production though, so beware.. my red rubber is quite heavy whereas the black one is a lot lighter (54g vs 61g uncut in max sponge, only played witht the red one so far). Stiga Genesis M
Review of Stiga Genesis MThose past seasons, I've played with Vega Pro quite a lot, also spent some time playing with Omega V Pro, TG3 Neo and TG2 Neo. I like spinny and not too dynamic rubbers on my FH.This Genesis M is a good intermediate between traditionnal chinese rubbers (tacky and "dead", need to put the whole body in the shot to get speed and be effective, very demanding if you're not used to it) and euro-jap rubbers (more dynamic, can get some speed even with shorter strokes). You get a rubber that's not too bouncy, can control the ball well (not too sensitive to incoming spin) and impart a good amount of spin. Short game is good because the rubber is not too bouncy, not as good as a classic tacky chinese rubber but better than usual euro rubbers. Still, you don't need as much power as you do with chinese rubbers, which makes it much more forgiving and easier to get more than decent speed. In the end, I find that this rubber gets the best of both world, and like it very much. Other players found that in contrary, you don't get a rubber as spinny as chinese rubbers, and more difficult to play than euro rubbers... I guess it depends a lot on what you're used to playing with. Anyway, if you like not too bouncy rubbers with good spin, but don't want / can't play with traditional chinese rubbers, then this one is definitely worth a shot! Edit after 2 years : I only wish this rubber would exist in "Hard" version. Medium feels too soft for me (I'd say around 42°, euro scale), and even though I really appreciate it, I might change for a harder rubber, especially on my forehand. Xiom Vega Europe
Review of Xiom Vega EuropeA good and balanced rubber. I've been playing with F3 and F3 Big Slam for years now, and was getting a bit bored (and tired of changing rubbers every 5 months). A friend of mine made me try this Vega Europe, and I finally bought one for myself.First of all, the sponge is said to be around 42°, but the topsheet is really elastic, which gives the impression of a medium-soft rubber, I'd say around 37-38°. The build quality is really great. The throw angle is quite high, it took me 2-3 sessions to get fully used to it. Due to the elastic topsheet, this rubber is very good for topspin player, not that fast though, I'd say it's a OFF- rubber. It's quite dynamic, so easy to topspin with, but not that easy to impart lots of spin to the ball that pops out of the rubber quite fast. So if you like to puts lots of spin in the ball, this may not be the best choice. As the sponge is firm, it behaves very well on more passive shots, quite good for blocks, short game and even defense. Overall I'd say this is a very versatile and durable rubber for offensive topspin players who like to go for several topspins and don't rely only on the spin of their ball. If you really rely on placement and heavy spin and not only offensive shots, I'd rather go with a Vega Pro that offers more control, more spin, but is more demanding (you need to put in more effort to get a faster ball). This Vega Europe is quite dynamic, so I find it sometimes difficult to correctly spin the ball. Jan 29, 2017

Xiom Vega Pro
Review of Xiom Vega ProCertainly my favorite forehand rubber of these last years. I've made lots of changes in my setup during several month, coming from flexible blades and very soft rubbers, and gradually came to stiffer blades and harder rubbers. I quickly came to love the Vega Pro for many reasons :- It's affordable, and yet very durable (lasts around one whole season for me). The build quality is extremely good. Though the sponge is firm, the topsheet is quite thin and suple so the overall feeling is firm, but not that hard (I'd say around 42-43°, depending on the thickness and the blade underneath). - It's quite fast, but very linear, so you don't feel like you're playing with an uncontrolable rocket. You get the speed you expect, no surprise, no tensor effect that comes into play when you don't expect it, and yet it's easy to play. On the contrary, the Vega Europe is a little easier on this side, speed is easier to "trigger"... but Vega Pro can be really fast as well if you have a good technique and hit the ball correctly. However, during short play or opening topspins, the rubber offers lots and lots of control... - ... and spin ! Vega Pro is a very spinny rubber. I never played with Tenergys or modern alternatives so it's hard to compare, I'd say it's a bit behind, but really not far. Throw angle is high or medium-high so very suited for topspin play. All in all, this has been my favorite rubber for the last 2-3 years, never really needed to try anything else. For this price, and if you Nov 13, 2015

Xiom Vega Euro DF
Review of Xiom Vega Euro DFFirst thing first : this Vega Euro DF is a really soft rubber. The feeling is around 35° I guess, it's by far the softest I've used since I've stopped playing with Desto F3 several years ago (now I'm mostly using hard rubbers such as Vega Pro, Omega Pro, Genesis M...).I've been using it on RPB backhand for 4 months and it's a very good rubber if you like soft sponge and springy rubbers with a "speed-glue" feeling. If you like playing strong topspins or flat hits / blocks often, you'll find this rubber too soft and it might even become difficult to control (the sponge bottoms-out quite fast when you play strong shots). As I said, I'm using it on penhold RPB backhand so I mainly play spinny topspin, and this rubber is well-suited for this. It's certainly not the most spinny one, but the topsheet is really grippy, and you won't have any surprises when trying to lift a ball up. It's a bit too soft for my taste, but if you have no problem with this, you might like this rubber very much. Jan 29, 2017
