Review of DHS Hurricane 8-80Search for backhand rubber is finally over. Rubbers I've tried: Stiga DNA Pro 50, DHS Gold Arc 8 47.5, DHS Hurricane 3 H37, DHS Hurricane 3-50 H35, Yinhe Jupiter 3 Asia H37, Sanwei Target National Soft, Sanwei Gear Hyper, Loki Telson 100. Some of those were quite good and if my backhand technique was better I would have probably chosen a tensor to compensate for speed or something like a Hurricane 3 H37 that is also faster and has significantly more spin but the 8-80 makes any shot much easier. I was particularly struggling with topspin return of backspin serves but with this rubber I got it from the first go. It's very spin insensitive and the softer sponge really helps with dwell time and as a result accuracy. It's not fast especially with flat shots but put some topspin and you'd be able to generate decent speed. For the foreseeable future I'm sticking with the 8-80 until I can get my technique improved. I might try the 3-50 in H37 but given it uses the same top sheet as the H3 I doubt it would be much different to H3 with H37 sponge.
Edit:
Even though I still believe this has spin only second to H3 and amazing control, now that I've improved my BH a bit it it lacks speed making especially serve returns easy to attack for your opponents. Even if your technique is perfect and you can execute fast swings to compensate for this - you'll never get good blocks with this rubber which is an issue for my game style. I use my BH mostly if I can't hit a good FH so mostly I just need to either return a serve or keep the ball on the table whilst ensuring my opponent doesn't get a chance at attacking it. I really want to try H3 H37 Provincial as I think it might be faster whilst maintaining all the good characteristics of 8-80. I will update my review when I do. For now I can recommend Loki Telson 100 as a better alternative if you don't want a tensor. At the moment I've settled on a tensor rubber for my BH at least until I try the H3 H37 Pro

Review of DHS Gold Arc 8Great around rubber. Plays well with any blade - all wood or carbon. I've tried on Butterfly Korbel (all wood 5 ply), DHS Long 5 (inner carbon), and Butterfly Viscaria (outer carbon). I liked it the most with Korbel because it compensates speed very nicely whilst still maintaining really good control - this combination is my go to at the moment for table tennis club I have at work because we play in tight spaces where away from the table game isn't possible and it's very easy to do fast loops in close to the table game because the arc is quite high yet short. For speed I give it a solid 9 - my benchmark for 10 is Stiga DNA Platinum H or XH and Stiga DNA Pro H is 9.5 for me. For control I give it a 9 - definitely the most controlled tensor I've tried, my 10 would be DHS Hurricane 8 and 8-80, and 9.5 DHS Hurricane 3 National and 729 battle 3. I rate spin also at 9 - my 10 pic is DHS Hurricane 3 National. This is seriously impressive tensor even though it's quite old at this point it does everything well and it's the only tensor I can actually play FH with effectively.

Review of Loki N80Tried this rubber for 3 hours today. I was pleasantly surprised to the extent I am now considering switching to this rubber on my BH. On FH it's ok - very safe and controlled but lacks the spin and speed of H3 blue sponge. The throw angle is low but again not as low as H3. If your game revolves around spin this rubber has more than enough of speed but flat shots are pretty bad like with other chinese rubbers. In terms of sponge hardness it's kinda hard to tell. I felt like it is definitely harder than H3 H37 that I've tried before and overall it is definitely faster than H3 H37 or something like H8-80. The top sheet is very soft though, great ball pocketing making flicks and topspins quite easy. It's also great away from the table. It's definitely slower than tensors that I'm currently using on BH but it has much more spin and control but you absolutely have to be active all the time. Blocking is probably the worst aspect of this rubber - it's easy to block but it's also very easy for your opponents to attack that block. For the price of around $20 definitely worth a try on BH. For FH I feel like there are better options like Loki Rxton 9 or H3 or Battle 2/3

Review of Stiga DNA Hybrid MTried this rubber for around 6 hours on a DHS Long 5. The rubber is slightly tacky but can't lift a ball like Chinese tacky rubbers. That said the grip is still really good and gets better after around 2 hours of play. Compared to DNA Platinum - this rubber is slower in the same hardness, so blocks and flat shots aren't as hard for your opponents to return. Where I felt like this rubber was significantly better than the Platinum was attacking backspin shots. Hybrid has a very high throw angle so you can play with a more closed bat and with a bit more of a forward motion resulting in shots that can really bounce up on your opponents side. With DNA Platinum you really have to engage the sponge to get good spin resulting in very fast and shots that are harder to control. I actually prefer this for backhand because I felt like I could return any ball aggressively with a high margin for error. I'm still not sure this rubber is better than my favourite ESN rubber - DHS Gold Arc 8. DNA Hybrid is definitely easier to play with, has even higher throw than the Gold Arc, and is overall on of the most spin insensitive tensor rubbers I've tried, but I feel like the balance of speed, spin, and high arc is better with Gold Arc 8. Will need to test it a bit more.
