Butterfly Rozena
Review of Butterfly RozenaI changed my FH rubber to Rozena red 2.1mm after having previously used Xiom Vega Pro and Omega 4 Pro. The reason for change is I had become increasingly BH dominant and BH dependent to score points....and my FH had become erratic and was losing its offensive edge! There is nothing wrong with Xiom rubbers! They are terrific! It was a psychological thing that I had to deal with and I was looking for a different rubber feel!I put the Rozena on Nittaku Latika (shakehand). At the first session, I disliked the feeling! But then, I was looking for something different! From session 3 onwards, I started liking it. The topsheet is grippy, does not slip even in humid weather and produces good amount of spin. It is not too soft nor hard. The rubber can lift backspin effectively, pushes, flips, blocks, drives, loops well. Hitting together with spinning the ball feels better than merely doing a pure flat hit. My FH confidence in both the short game and away from table, is being rebuilt. Bonus: correctly contacted, the rubber hisses off a nice "poof"! For me, an important feedback on the quality of my stroke. I suppose a different rubber feel plus attention to rehabilitating other aspects of technique all add into the equation! Thank you for reading! Update: I switched the Rozena to BH of my Yinhe V14 Pro. I love it for for the ball grip, the moderate catapult and the speed. BH attacks over the table and counter-hitting away from the table are great! For me, this rubber feels better on the BH. Apr 14, 2021

DHS NEO Hurricane 2
Review of DHS NEO Hurricane 2Comparing H2 commercial, H2 sponge no19 and H2 NEO, H2 NEO is easily my favorite. H2 commercial feels hard and dead and I have to whack every ball to make things happen. H2 sponge no 19 feels like "something is missing". H2 NEO feels complete as an offensive rubber. Once the NEO sponge is engaged, power flows easily. However, its effectiveness lies in its combination of speed and vicious spin. I use a relatively open blade on the FH to drive and the heavy spin brings the ball down on to the table. When brushing, the throw increases dramatically. In any case, I have learned to always "engage" the rubber, keep the blade relatively open and have sufficient forward momentum to avoid dumping the ball into the net. With that, the rubber becomes very consistent. Full strength loops are very penetrating and difficult for the opponent to block. Out of position passive blocks produce weak balls because the rubber has no catapult effect. Hence, the rubber rewards active and aggressive strokes. It is a very strong rubber and the more we put in, the more it gives out. It is durable, inexpensive and performs great! I am a fan of H2 NEO.Feb 15, 2013

Friendship/729 Super FX
Review of Friendship/729 Super FXThis is a classic Chinese style tacky top-sheet with very firm sponge. The sticky surface makes it easy to impart lots of spin in serves. It is also very sensitive to incoming spin. This may or may not be a good thing. It forces one to be very alert to what the opponent is doing and to respond appropriately. It is easy to loop, chop and push with this rubber. Control is good. Excellent for 3rd ball attack and close to table play. It may be somewhat lacking in loop to loop rallies. When I use it on the FH, I prefer to hit drive the ball into the sponge in order to get speed and control. Hits/drives and loops give a crisp ball impact sensation. There is no catapult effect, so for speed and penetration, there must be good body/stroke mechanics. Hence, it is a good training rubber. The spin can be very high Compared to the latest tensors, it is slow and not lively. Often, players who use this rubber put it on a blade with some flex. Playing away from the table requires much effort. The rubber is cheap and durable.May 16, 2013

KTL (LKT) Pro XP
Review of KTL (LKT) Pro XPFeels very much like an economical version of a traditional Japanese rubber. So, it is a good all-round rubber. Feels soft with good sensation, is forgiving ie easy to use, has a little 'pop', can do all shots. Recieving serve is not too difficult because the top-sheet is grippy but not tacky. When I first started training, I used this on an OFF- all wood 5 ply.May 16, 2013

Nittaku Fastarc G-1
Review of Nittaku Fastarc G-1I use G1 on FH on a Yinhe V14 Pro. There is good synergy between top sheet and sponge , giving excellent balance between spin, speed and control. The rubber can really bite into the ball to produce wicked topspin, causing opponent to completely miss the ball. Near or away from the table, the rubber performance is steady, reliable and consistent. The feel and feedback on impact is direct and natural feeling. Serves, pushes, flicks, blocks, smashes, lifting backspin, topspin rallies, this rubber handles everything competently! It delivers! It also feels fun! Relative to other tensors, it is fairly priced in my country. It is also durable. A real gem!Update: I moved the rubber to the BH. For a BH dominant attacking style of play, whether over the table, close to table or away, G1 is perfect ! Jun 12, 2023

Xiom Omega IV Pro
Review of Xiom Omega IV ProA relatively firm and grippy topsheet combines with a firm sponge (47.5 ESN hardness) to give high spin and speed potential. Paired on a Petr Korbel blade, it gives consistent results on flicks, pushes, smashes, loops and hits. Lifting backspin is effective. The ball does not slip off the rubber even in humid weather and when loop driving with a very closed racket face. Offensive shots, properly executed, will simply skid and shoot off the opponent's side!May not be helpful to beginners because sound stroke mechanics are required. One needs to hit into the rubber for best results. For the improving player, this rubber gives clear feedback in feel and sound. Compared to Xiom Vega Pro, the chief difference is Vega Pro has a supple topsheet, even though both Vega Pro and Omega lV Pro have the same published sponge hardness. With Vega Pro, the feel is like the ball 'plays' on the rubber for a moment before shooting out. With the Omega lV Pro, the feel is more immediate. The rubber is priced approximately 25% cheaper than the latest tensors. My rubber had to be replaced after about 90 hours. Though this rubber has been around for 10 years, it is still an excellent attacking rubber for intermediate players. Jun 25, 2019

Yinhe Mercury II
Review of Yinhe Mercury III use the black 36* on FH of Yinhe V12, 6.1 mm thick carbokev blade. First impressions are ...........? It is very cheap. Does that mean it lacks possibilities? Compared to expensive German tensors, the M2 sponge initially feels and sounds like cardboard to me! Is that a bad thing?Well, serves are very spinny. Also, I adjusted my FH to a more forward driving movement to give the ball more forward momentum. The rubber is excellent for lifting backspin, slow topspin, loop drives, over the table topspin, hits, counter-drives and counter-loops. The mildly tacky top-sheet does not appear to be too reactive to incoming spin. Hence, it feels easy to over-power the opponent's spin by playing aggressive. Block is reasonable. you can easily take the speed off the incoming shot and drop the ball short. There is a little liveliness in the sponge but nothing like a tensor. When caught off position, "desperate, put the ball back at all costs" returns result in weak balls. Playing short balls is easy due to its "cardboard" feel and linear response. Using this rubber, I found myself playing aggressively with lots of topspin close to the table. Very enjoyable especially when paired with Xiom Vega Asia on BH. Jan 01, 2014
