Avalox Purot
Review of Avalox PurotTacky style rubber but not very tacky when out the packet. Soft for control and good for RPB. Creates a lot of spin. Not too slow. Very similar to yasaka rubbers. Can be made more tacky with tackiness cleaners.Purot 40 is a much different rubber. The sponge seems quite lifeless and is soft and porous thus absorbing a lot of the energy of the incoming ball. The topsheet seems a lot more Chinese with shorter pips. It's slower and not as tacky as it's softer cousin but generates good spin and has higher control. Might be good for defence but I don't defend. Purot soft seems more of an attacking rubber Aug 03, 2015

Butterfly Dignics 05
Review of Butterfly Dignics 05The main problem I have with it is its short trajectory which makes it almost impossible to play far from the table. You will be blocked off.It seems to grab the ball well, absorb the speed and then rebound back low with good spin. The topsheet grip is incredible. Much better than tenergy. Pushing gives great spin. Touching short is oddly more difficult with this rubber. It is difficult to keep the ball low. I don't have this problem with T05. Blocking is very easy as the ball stays on the bat for a long time. It is more suited to people who play wristy backhands with a lot of spin as the dwell time is a disadvantage to players such as myself who punch flat. Your stroke will need to be very upward like with chinese rubbers (mine is not). It has a nice violent dip when you loop successfully with it. If you play 3rd ball attack, don't buy this rubber. I recommend this to players who play a push and counter game close to the table. Jul 12, 2019

Butterfly Tenergy 05 Hard

Review of Butterfly Tenergy 05 HardUsed this with 2 layers booster. Arc is low, much nicer than regular T05. However, not forgiving at all. Far more loops go into the net. You have to be good to use this rubber. It does everything the T05 does well. Just more mistakes. Will go back to regular T05 to get more consistency.Mar 10, 2023

Nexy Etika 47

Review of Nexy Etika 47Just started using it. Slight tackiness when new. Can lift the ball for a second.Low throw. Not too fast. Long trajectory. Short backspin a bit difficult. I will test more. [Update] Unfortunately the slight tack wears off after 2 weeks. The main problem I have with it is the surface grip. This meant I lose control, difficult to pick up half longs etc. The feeling is actually very close to Tenergy and the trajectory is nice and low and long and perfect. With more surface grip it may just be the perfect rubber, but it doesn't so it isn't. A bit of a shame. Just becomes a slapping rubber really. 51 may be better with pro sponge too, but don't have enough faith in topsheet to test it out. Mar 15, 2024

Victas V > 01
Review of Victas V > 01So this one wore out quite quickly despite not too much use. So generally it's durability is poor like a lot of German made rubbers and it ends up giving a full plastic feeling after a month or two. That being said, it's a unique rubber. Victas weren't lying when they described the sponge technology. The sponge feels like it compresses a lot at contact and then springs out really fast with a long trajectory like a trampoline. This gives a really unique feel. Doesn't feel like a 47.5, more like a 45 hardness tbh. Generally it's a really easy to use rubber. It's not very sensitive to spin. Open-ups are really easy. All strokes can be performed well. It behaves a bit like T64 in that you can counter well from mid distance but punch off-the-bounce too (when new). The main problem is the grip. When Xia (table tennis navi) reviewed this rubber he identified that high level players would complain about this. He's not wrong. There's been noticeable reduction of spin on the serve, short game and picking up half-longs. People have commented about this too when playing me. It's a shame really, but still more grip and durability than the Etika I was using. In summary, I'd describe it as quite similar to T64 in its characteristics, less grip but with a very unique sponge feel. Quite linear in gears. Very user-friendly. The arc is between a T64 and an Etika. And like most ESN rubbers, durability is poor. This rubber is great for easy loop kills, but doesn't produce tons of spin. So you will get more balls on the table but compromise on the shot quality a bit. You could buy T64 instead, but this is much cheaper at ΒΌ of the price, so it might be more cost effective to keep replacing the V>01. Up to you. May 31, 2024

Review of Xiom Sigma II ProPlay in 2mm sponge, fh. Reasonably fast but controllable due to great spin. Slower and more spinny than first sigma. Sigma best series in xiom range imoFeb 16, 2015

Xiom Omega VII Hyper
Review of Xiom Omega VII HyperThis rubber is super unique. I couldn't play with this rubber as long as I wanted to because it kept injuring my shoulder. After the 2nd time it happened I gave up and went back to T05.Technically, it's probably the best rubber I've ever used. The grip is easily on Dignics levels, the spin and arc is exceptional. Even the deep soft clicking sensation is incredible. So on paper this should be the one. The issue I had with it is it's very non-linear. When you play soft, it's super dead. When you play fast, it goes wild. Instead of increasing proportionally direct to effort, it seems to increase exponentially. The mechanics are also very similar to a Chinese rubber, which explains their hybrid technology on the package. So don't expect to play a Tenergy or Dignics style stroke - you have to play like you would a boosted Hurricane, despite this being totally non-tacky. This puts a lot of strain on the body. And if your mechanics are not quite right, you will get punished. I think this is due to the extra hard sponge, which really is hard (but gives a soft sensation, presumably due to factory tuning). The extreme sponge may explain the extreme dynamics. So not the most user friendly. This may explain a lack of popularity. But individually, this rubber is great at almost all aspects of the game - spin, speed, grip are all incredible and I was tempted to give 10s all-round. I just couldn't get used to its unique non-linear nature and couldn't understand how much effort to put into each ball. Essentially, this rubber was too demanding and overly complex to use. I think Hurricane 3 national is the main competitor to this rubber, and is probably more reliable, less fussy and more tameable for all levels, and can be fine tuned with booster better than the Hyper can. You may have thought Xiom's fastest rubber was meant to compete with the Bryce highspeed or other super fast rubbers but that's not its target market, so it's a very counter-intuitive offering. Xiom Sigma V
Review of Xiom Sigma VGood grip but not great. Oddly seems a downgrade on the discontinued Sigma I Pro.It has a dwell issue, it struggles to really catch the ball. This makes it very unforgiving. It loses speed from mid-distance and because it doesn't catch the ball that well, it gives you a really small margin for error. The throw angle makes it difficult to counter close-to-table as well. I think this is more of a sponge issue than a topsheet issue, but they don't seem to work together that well. It doesn't have the characteristic soft click sensation that many former Sigma and current Omega rubbers do. And it doesn't have as much oomph. That being said, with the dynamic friction topsheet it can produce a lot of spin, maybe a bit less than 05, and the trajectory is very dangerous. It's spin insensitive, too - you can hit through spin quite well. Like the previous Sigmas, the flight of the ball is low then kicks up at the table. This makes playing against this rubber quite difficult but it is also difficult to master. The short game is reasonably good and with the grip, serving is also decent for spin. But because the sponge is weak, it's difficult to add pace on short serves. The main issue I have with this rubber is the lack of confidence it gives on mid-distance counters, where it clearly lacks kick. This rubber is a little unbalanced and slightly disappointing. But it's quite popular in Korea where it's sold. Available on GMarket Jul 24, 2026
