Butterfly Bryce FX
Review of Butterfly Bryce FXHad this for a while on my Schlager Carbon. HATED IT. the softer sponge was horrible, and it felt like hitting the ball with a plate of oatmeal.in order to get speed like an unglued Bryce, I used about 3-5 layers of speed glue (before the ban), and that made the softer sponge even worse. it may have been my particular sheet, but it was a miserable experience. it was a horrible month before I took it off and never used it again. Butterfly Bryce
Review of Butterfly BryceI've had a few different sheets of Bryce. in contrast to the FX version, I very much enjoyed using it.I had one unglued on a Yasaka Gaiten Offensive. it wasn't reglued for nearly 4 years. it was still very, very quick and spinny, but the feel degraded to the point where I gave up and started speed gluing it. another one went on my Schlager Carbon with speed glue, and stayed as my forehand for a long time until I tried smashing a ball, missed, and hit the corner of an aluminium-edged table. not a pretty ending. overall a great rubber, but without speed glue and of late its been overshadowed completely. Butterfly Sriver
Review of Butterfly Sriverone of the all-time greats, along with the MarkV. fantastic all-rounder and even today, is a great rubber.I tried a paddle with an old (and I mean old) Butterfly D13-soft, and a modern Sriver. the sponges are different (because the old style was banned I believe), but the play was still exactly the same. great rubber. it'll never let you down. Butterfly Sriver FX
Review of Butterfly Sriver FXpretty good backhand rubber. not nearly enough speed for forehand, but is overall a good-enough kind of product.haven't tried it speed glued, but I suspect it'd be a candidate for forehand in that condition. it's just the right speed/spin/control/softness for a proper beginner (i.e. child starting out with a coach. Butterfly Tackifire Drive
Review of Butterfly Tackifire DriveI have no idea what the excitement is all about. at best, it's average. it's not cheap, it's not fast, not (overly) spinny, and not great control.try a Stiga Magna instead. it's got the speed and spin that the Tackifire wishes it has. Butterfly Ekrips
Review of Butterfly EkripsButterfly says this rubber was designed for Chinese-style close-table attacking.it's okay. it's not an overwhelmingly fast rubber like a Bryce, but rather, it's very quick. the ball doesn't sit in the sponge at all and rebounds. it doesn't seem fast because you're not using the same complete-body motion as a handshake attack (if you're using the rubber correctly) and the feeling is rather poor, but the control is okay. this rubber is a collection of contradictions. it's not fast but quick, no feel but okay control. I'm not quite sure what to make of this rubber, but I don't think Butterfly really did either. Sep 24, 2008
Donic (1)

Donic Desto F1
Review of Donic Desto F1typical tensor rubber. great speed and spin away from the table. sacrifices a little in the short game (or alot, depends on whom you ask).matched with a 5/7-ply wood blade with hinoki-top veneer blade=beautiful, but hurts the wallet a bit. I know a few die-hard F1 users, and it's still a pretty good option these days. Feb 28, 2011

Juic 999 Elite
Review of Juic 999 Elitenot the best rubber ever. very spinny, very very soft. not a lot of control or speed.I used it early in my development and I feel like it set me back quite a bit as a young player. with (much) more experience nowadays, I still don't really like it all that much. it was kind of a big deal in the late 90s, and probably was a monster with glue in a ~2.0 sponge, but nowadays there are better options. Nittaku Refoma
Review of Nittaku Refomain my search for a rubber that does everything well, I found one that does just about everything...sub-averagely.I was initially attracted to this rubber because it's heralded as a "classic" style rubber, able to handle the down and dirty slow stuff that modern manufacturers seem to forget in their quest to make the game harder to play for beginners. it certainly is that. on a first bounce impression, just a hair slower than a sriver but much less lively than a modern rubber. then I tried playing with it. now, don't get me wrong. it's a lovely rubber. well made, well packaged, pretty sponge and topsheet etc etc. it just didn't quite live up to it's immediate competitors. I'd read that the harder you play with it, the better it gets. meaning you'd have to dig past your limit of skill before you'd find the treasure. and I tried. I pulled out everything I had, every last drop of skill. I asked everything from this rubber and just didn't get it. pushes just didn't have any spin. flicks didn't have any zing. slow blocking was great because of the wonderful control, but faster blocks didn't pose any difficulty at all. my serves and topspin were unsatisfactory. chops landed where I wanted, but were returned promptly without any effort. even on flat smashes, where I normally obliterate and expected to find the promised land of performance, just didn't quite have the velocity I'd expect. in summary, I didn't find the promised land. it's got oodles of control, but nothing a mark v doesn't have. spin was lacklustre, and speed was...well, it certainly doesn't add anything. it might be worth trying if you are much more into the ALL- to pure defense range than I am, because it simply wasn't what I was looking for. it's close to a sriver but doesn't quite have that magic to it. the mark v is much more dynamic does everything better, even in the modern era. sorry Nittaku. AFAIK, it's supposed to be a repackaged Nodias, which was supposed to replace the old JO Waldner. Oct 21, 2014

Palio Macro
Review of Palio Macrothe Macro is very good. very good. next time you're thinking about a Bryce or something similar, try this out. it has the low-end touch you want and the high-end speed you need. it holds up to rubbers over three times more expensive and beats them in every way. try it out, and if you don't like it, it won't have cost you much.May 21, 2009
Stiga (5)
Stiga Innova Ultra Light
Review of Stiga Innova Ultra Lightthis is my go-to backhand rubber. I don't even consider anything else. the Ultra Light has everything I've ever wanted in a rubber, except maybe a little speed, but it never worries me. it has great control, spin, durability and it's as light as it gets. the speed and feel get better with glue (although that's been banned). without regular gluing, it starts to feel a little dead (as does everything else), but is still one of the best offensive rubbers around. give it a try and you'll always be happy with it.May 21, 2009

Stiga Neos Sound
Review of Stiga Neos Soundfast, spinny, good control, durable and light. it has the top-end power and spin that you want. it could use a better low gear, but it's passable. use some Stiga Carbon glue and people stop and stare at you, because it 'clicks' so loud, people think you're smashing, but you're really just doing a soft return.Dec 09, 2008
Stiga Magna
Review of Stiga Magnathis is kind of a strange one. it's not overwhelmingly fast, the control is average and if you run your finger on the top, it feels maybe, as tacky as a Sriver.then you chop or loop with it. the only other rubber you could possibly compare it to is a long-pip rubber. it bites and pulls spin on the ball so hard that your opponents cannot return it unless they know what's coming. it travels with me as an alternate, for use against heavy loopers or smashers. Stiga Neos Sound SynergyTech
Review of Stiga Neos Sound SynergyTechfairly identical to the original version, but supposedly works better with water glue. I'm hoping it won't degrade as severely as the speed glue version without the ability to reglue it before every use.otherwise; good speed, good spin, good control and that fantastic sound that people crave. Stiga Boost TS
Review of Stiga Boost TSfantastic speed, spin, control and simply the amazing sound I've come to expect from Stiga (but I'm still amazed at every time. can't wait to try a Calibra Sound). works great in the mid-long distance game and doesn't really give up too much in the short game (especially when matched up with a nice blade)needs to be broken in a little, but it kind of blows my mind that it can get better. the sponge might be too soft for some people though, seems to match up perfectly to my style. Yasaka (2)
Yasaka Mark V
Review of Yasaka Mark Vdoes anything more need to be said? it's one of the two most successful rubbers ever (along with the Sriver). let me put this quite simply: my coach had the same rubber from the early 80s until he dropped a table on it (long story) in 2003. hasn't changed since it started and it's still the benchmark for all offensive rubbers.Dec 09, 2008

Yasaka Mark V M2
Review of Yasaka Mark V M2it's a Mark V with more speed at the cost of one low-end gear. if you've used a Mark V, then you know that it has one to spare.Sep 16, 2008
