The DONIC BlueGrip V1 has a sticky, Chinese style top sheet in combination with a catapult effect blue sponge.
Especially recommended for topspin players who prefer to attack with the forehand. Thanks to its sticky surface the BlueGrip V1 is also suitable for combination bat and defensive players who occasionally like to attack with counter top spins from half-distance.
The BlueGrip V1 follows the Chinese trend: Success in style!
It is with some sadness that I write this review for a rubber I truly liked but that has since been discontinued. The Donic Bluegrip V1 has been a remarkable companion to my table tennis journey. I purchased it back in 2019 upon returning to the sport after decades away from the tables.
Initially, I glued the Bluegrip V1 to a Butterfly Schlager Carbon blade simply because it was the blade I had available. This configuration brought me immense joy. The forehand was powerful and exceptionally spinny, albeit a bit challenging to control—understandable, considering I was untrained and the Schlager Carbon is a truly explosive blade.
By 2023, after dedicating time to training, I was proud to win third place at a regional championship, largely thanks to the powerful forehand that this rubber helped me develop.
Today, as I write this, I am using the Bluegrip V1 on a light Yinhe T11S blade, awaiting the arrival of the Bluegrip V1’s successor, the Bluegrip J1. While I wait for the new rubber to arrive by mail, I continue to enjoy the Bluegrip V1 on my Yinhe T11S. I find it offers a great balance of control, spin, and speed. My local friends, unfamiliar with hybrid rubbers, often comment on how my forehand balls look unusual—they float high in the air before suddenly dropping onto the table. That is the distinct high-arc trajectory characteristic of hybrid rubbers.
Rest in peace, Bluegrip V1. Soon, you will return to your original packaging, which I still keep, and then to my collection, where you will be fondly remembered.
Note: Bluegrip J3 has same hardness than V1. Therefore, for those who would like to have a V1, the J3 might be an interesting option.
Had a red sheet (max) on Boll ALC. It works excellent on TBA surprisingly, not a bad combination (TBA with tacky rubber) at all as some people comments.
Best forehand rubber for Chinese forehand style. Superb spin and loads of power. Balls can be hit so fast and so much spin which makes the ball does not even bounce upward. Very good dwell time. Easy to hit through the sponge and reach the wood blade. Nothing can be better!!!
