Is a high speed inverted rubber designed to maximize speed and spin after the ITTF glue ban ruling. Torrent has a specialized pip geometry that when combined with new energy sponge creates a playing environment that existed previously only with speed glue.
I was looking for a cheap but reasonable rubber to replace the worn out rubbers on some pre-made blades. I was surprised at how nice these Torrent rubbers are and how they transformed the low-end blades. The rubbers increased the weight of the bat slightly but I putting that down to moving from a 1.8mm to a 2.0mm rubber. The Torrent produces high amounts of spin and is very responsive to changes in technique. Being quite tacky with a medium-soft to medium sponge, the more wrist and whip in your stroke the more spin the rubber generates. I find this to be a sound blocking, drive and flat hitting rubber too but it really comes into it's own on pushes, chops and spinney loops. The downside is that it seems to be quite sensitive to incoming spin making return of service a challenge for the beginner. That said, for under US$20 this is a very good all-round intermediate rubber. Enjoy.
Hardness seems about 34 +- 2 degrees. Weight seems slightly above average.
Rubber is slightly tacky when new. The ball will only stick to it slightly or not at all.
A bit slow as when attacking though spin good but less than tacky rubbers. Quite a good level of control as not too fast.
Throw angle I found to be a bit lower than average.
Blocking was OK lacked some punch as slower rubber generally.
Pushing and chop serves were good for control but spin was not heavy due to lack of tacky surface.
A bit slow compared to most attacking rubbers but very good value for the price. One of the best to try out in this price range.
The rubber when recently fixed on the blade works fine. Very control, good spin, medium arc, not much power but enough for an allround-Off rubber.
The problem was when the FIRST unglue to put in a new blade. Bubbles appear between the sponge and the rubber... and, in the second time the rubber simply PLUGED-OUT of the sponge.
First, and last time I bought a pair of this rubber.
Use this on butterfly BISIDE blade. I have always had alot of spin on both sides and I normally (I have retired from serious competition) played Sriver then COPPA or SCRAMBLE when I was a 2100 level player. This stuff works fine and I continue to use it now that I am a trainer and coach
