Very controllable blade with a good speed. I'm using it with DHS Neo Hurricane 3 Provincial Blue Sponge (FH) and Nittaku Fastark G1 (BH). Absolutely worth try!
... for a specific reason!!! ADDENDUM: 1. sealing this wood is absolutely necessary. (... despite my sealing, 2 of my woods now have frayed edges after 2 years.) 2. speed and control are currently (07/2024) absolutely overrated!!!
Review from 09/2022: Until recently there were two different versions of this wood. The older one looks like the original DHS Hurricane Ma Long 5 and uses ALC instead of ZLC !!! (... reviews of this under Stuor Hurricane Long 5!) Facts: Inner layer wood with enlarged hitting surface (160 x 150 mm) and extremely large sweet spot. My woods weigh 86 and 88 g. and both have a rather slim handle. The rebound feel is hard to medium hard with medium vibration. The best combination for me so far is the Nittaku Fastarc G-1 with 2 mm (FH) and the Hammond Z2 with 1.8 mm (BH). ... excellent control in all playing situations!!! I would rate this blade as OFF-. Conclusion: If you don't need a "speed monster", ... this blade definitely has enough speed and control and is absolutely recommendable!!! - the only thing that could be criticized about this blade would be the fact that the blade quickly becomes top-heavy due to the enlarged club head. Addendum: If you know this blade but want more speed, you should try the XVT Rage 301 Kevlar Carbon! (- even if it is not an inner layer blade!!!) I compared both blades with identical rubbers and the playing feel is almost identical. - Attention: Stuor also offers Prof. Long 5 as a Cybershape variant!!! (- read my test report. ;-D)
The fastest blade I've ever had. I paired it with Hurricane 3 Neo rubbers (41 & 39 degrees) on both sides, and the setup feels super fast. |
Mine is 88 grams. The build quality is good. The surface seems to be sealed out of the box, so I didn't lacquer it. Sanded the handle a little bit after several training sessions. |
Control is insufficient for me. I often shoot off the table if I'm playing close to the table which I often do. |
The arc is medium high and long. Too long for my liking. |
Direct play is provokingly great. At least with the hard Hurricanes. Drives & blocks are quick and land on the table. |
Opening loop is not very easy, proper technique and body position is needed. |
Looping from away from the table is not very easy, I often shoot into the net. |
Flicks are not easy, require good technique. |
Playing from mid-distance is where the blade performs best for me. |
The final verdict: this blade can be too fast and demanding, physically and technique-wise. I also feel I should try it with a tad softer rubbers.
