Review of Double Fish Volant Phoenix 2Red, 43 g, 37 deg on BH. Big surprise from a chinese budget rubber, very euro-like behavior. Good speed and spin, and bouncy. Very close to my regular setup, and since my backhand rubber is discontinued, this is actually an option, and the weight is a bonus. Did not need to adjust much. Good arc, predictable. A bit tough to keep short game short, but it’s an expected trade off.

Review of Friendship/729 FX Lightening (Lightning)67 grams uncut (2,0 black) is not as light as I expected. Otherwise, easy to play with. Suits development of technique at the same time strokes are pretty efficient. Nowadays it costs about 11 euro, which I consider good value.

Review of Gewo Hype XT Pro 50.052 g. Red. 2,1. Lifts the ball but doesn't hold it. Good enough arc, possible to control a lot with whether I brush or hit. Easy to spin. It has a window for slow looping, but outside that it is possibly the fastest rubber I've tried. It's up there with Tenergy 05 Hard but with a little more arc. A bit elastic feeling, but not as much as Rhyzer 50 pro. After 5 months it was getting a bit stale, so instead av just throwing it away, I boosted it with one thin layer of FTL to soften it up. What a reaction! Faster than new and spinny as nothing else. I have trouble keeping the ball on the table, but when I do, it's all worth it. I don't play matches with booster, but this is perfect for playing with friends: They win more, and I have more fun:-) My ratings are for the unboosted rubber.

Review of Loki RXTON 9I got 39 deg, black (red is not available at this time). I come from hard/Chinese rubber on FH and bouncier/euro rubber on BH. It's faster than TG2 in all gears, especially after a couple of practice sessions. Sponge is undisputably hard. Still I get a soft/elastic feeling in close game without too much catapult. It aught to come from the rubber composition or pimple structure, but I really can't tell. That makes slow spinny loops a lot easier to perform than with for example Battle 2 gold and T05 hard. Short serves are also easier to achieve. Spin wise, they are all up to the task, though. They become more similar in loop rallies a step or two back from the table. Good arc, which helps me keeping the ball on the table. I could imagine a 38 deg or boosted version on BH. Cut weight 48g. Glue (and maybe booster) is factory applied. Glue came off fairly easy when i switched blade, and weight came down to 46 g. The Rxton 9 on FH fits my game beautifully! Hope it stays in the market for a while.
Update for 40,5 deg: 51 g cut. With the additional hardness I get less control of slow loops and open ups. Still pretty good and somewhat lively (I’m guessing thanks to the topsheet). Serves are still very controllable. For blocks and attacking drive and loop this is faster. For my game, I’d say I get slightly more gears. I’ve played about 8 hours. If it softens up just a little bit, it stays on my FH. Otherwise I’ll use the 39 version as it’s a little more forgiving on low impact shots.

Review of Loki RXTON 3 ProWonderful for counter loop and attack. Not the most complete rubber, but addictive. Black only indicates FH use, but for me it stands out even more on BH. 47 g cut.
Update after 3 weeks: I underestimated this rubber on FH. It takes my unforced errors down to half, at least. I overshoot less and it’s really controlled when returning serves, so I can focus more on other aspects. Still it has quite a lot of gears, and with a good swing I can still get good spin and ok speed.

Review of Loki RXTON 5 ProAfter a week I’m starting to get used to it. Felt like a dud at first, so slow, but with more impact, ball quality improves. Reminds me of a new sheet of TG2 but with less spin. Strange that hardness feels so far from factory statement, like 3 degrees softer. Light: 42 g cut, which helps a lot. Pretty affordable, so I boosted one just to play with friends, one layer as thin as I could and it got really, really fast. Huge effect. Fun, but out of control. I wonder if it comes factory boosted and the very different experiences in these reviews are a result from how much effect still remains on delivery?

Review of Victas Ventus ExtraBlack, Max. 49g cut. Wonderfully balanced with an attitude. Had it on BH first but worked so well on FH that I switched. A competitor to my regular TG2: faster, as spinny and not too bouncy. Actually it seems like my opponents find this rubber spinnier than TG2. I did not have to adjust much myself. Hard to keep serves short, but short game is otherwise still ok. Not too far from B2 blue sponge and Loki Rxton 9. I compare with Chinese rubbers since that is what I normally play. However, the Ventus Extra gets the better of them through its intense as well as controlled power loop and smash. I am glad to have found a good eur/jap rubber for FH in case of hot or humid conditions, since the tacky rubbers I play agree poorly with moisture.
