Friendship/729 Phoenix II
|

Review of Friendship/729 Phoenix IIThe Phoenix II, sponge color = white (tested in "soft", d=2mm, black rubber) bought for 14 euros. The rubber weighs 64 g when not cut including cover foil on the rubber. Cut to fit my 729 Blue Alc OFF racket => 47 g (without foil)- so it is just a bit lighter than the average heavy rubbers. The rubber sounds pretty good and relatively full (not a classic Chinese cracker like the LOKI RXTON III, blue). The Phoenix 2 is rather averagely fast (ALL, ALL+ at best). The manufacturer's speed rating of 10 is absolutely not understandable, as the rubber is definitely far slower than the Dragon Pro L from the same company. At least the manufacturer's "Forward Rating" 11 is lower than that of the Dragon Pro L. The forward value appears to me missleading as the rubber forwards a ball above the table quite well but requires noticeable effort from mid distances behind the table. The Phoenix 2 also has less speed potential ("gears") than the 729 Dragon Pro L or the Palio AK47 Blue - although that is to be expected as the sponge is almost 2/10mm thinner (sponge d = 2mm vs. MAX of Dragon Pro and AK47). The rubber appears to me rather underwhelming, even for backhand use. Pro: It generates a decent amount of spin and has a nice touch above the table. It provides an medium high throw angle and the ball curve is very good to control. Cons: No obvious strength, not a single outstanding handling characteristic. I use it for the backhand (as recommended by DHS) and I'm sorry to say: I won't buy it again and can't recommend it at the price point. Out of curiosity I tried FH play with it and it does simply not perform as FH rubber. (Contrary to the REVSPIN "Manufacturers Details" it's NOT a tensor rubber!) Friendship/729 Dragon-L

Review of Friendship/729 Dragon-LI've tested the 729 Friendship Dragon-L, Sponge: Orange in Thickness: MAX (=2.1mm), Hardness: 40-42 (china Medium), Europe scale = Hard , Top Sheet: Sticky, Price: 15,30 EuroThe Dragon L provides good Spin and Speed as long as one performs a energetic stroke - it provides more than average gears. The Rubber is quite heavy so be carefull to keep an eye on the overall weight of your racket when you plan to use it. The Dragon L sounds quite good for a Chinese rubber, not the usual plastic cracker noise. Aug 11, 2024

Loki RXTON 3 Pink Or Blue
|

Review of Loki RXTON 3 Pink Or BlueTested: LOKI RXTON 3 blue, with 2.1mm (MAX), hardness: A 40, sponge color: "white / beige" bought for 8 euros. The rubber weighs 70 g (uncut) and 49 g cut and is therefore rather light for a MAX rubber. When top-spinning with full body effort and explosive arm movement, the rubber generates massive spin and impressive speed. Without full body effort, the rubber is rather slow (almost kind of lame) but provides very good and consistent to control. Compared to a 729 Dagon Pro L max, it is inferior in both speed and spin with average arm stroke and normal body effort. The precise control and the repeatability of the rubber are impressive. However, for really dangerous topspins, explosive effort is required, which you have to be able to physically sustain during a longer rally. When countering, the rubber unfortunately sounds like the worst Chinese cracker, it slaps loudly and sounds like plastic. Conclusion: I'm torn, I probably won't buy the rubber again because of the sound and the required stroke speed /effort! The RXTON III blue impresses with speed and spin on the forehand in an "all out" offensive ralley with full commitment. However, the necessary body and arm effort is very strenuous for an averagely fit athlete. The sound is also a "annoying burden". Still I consider the price and the blue color both as GREAT!Aug 18, 2024
