Double Fish Volant Phoenix 2

Review of Double Fish Volant Phoenix 2For context, I'm an amateur who has played for more than 3 years. I used this for my backhand, my version is 37-degree Chinese hardness.I was looking for a faster and better-opening rubber than Yinhe Big Dipper V, and Volant checks all the boxes: - It's spinny (but still not as spinny as Yinhe Big Dipper V, Big Dipper V is still better at controlling backhand exchange.) - Noticeably faster at quick exchange. - Easier to open, it aids me in lifting backspin with its bouncy porous sponge. Standard flick is really easy and fast with this rubber. One of the strongest aspects of this rubber. - Easier activation than Big Dipper V, it requires a large backswing, along with using the left leg for Big Dipper V. With Volant 2, I only need to time and relax before hitting and can activate the sponge 50% of the time. - Consistent mid-court loop is possible with this rubber. Aside from power, high throw might contribute to this. - Long push and short game are good, I get used to it in just several tries. This rubber's tackiness is mild, cannot lift the ball off the table. But the surface is definitely tacky-like rather than matte-like. It has a porous cake sponge; you should wet your cutting knife before cutting, or else the sponge will scatter. I'm pleased with this rubber, and I don't intend to replace it soon. Given it's half the cost of Big Dipper V, Volant Phoenix 2 is a gem. Sep 26, 2026

Double Fish Volant Phoenix

Review of Double Fish Volant PhoenixThis rubber packs a lot of power but is easy to activate the sponge. For context, I'm an amateur who has played the game for 3 years, my version is 39 degrees. I updated to this rubber from the Battle 2 Max Pro 38 degrees. It's not true that this rubber is a hybrid, but it's true that it feels like a hybrid; this feeling is thanks to pre-boosting. Out of the package, it already curves toward the center. The sponge is dense and not porous, and it's blue, which is common among traditional Chinese forehand rubbers. The tackiness of this rubber can lift a ball for around 1 second. Volant 1 is really fast, bouncy and spinny. It's easy to clear the net with this rubber. I can consistently activate the rubber when retracting my hip during the backswing, and it can still offer more when I add more power. It's great that you can both brush-hit and hit-brush loop with this rubber, hit-brush is more rewarding because it helps me engage the sponge, and the speed is very fast. This rubber is just fantastic for an aggressive player like me; I can attack more consistently against backspin. This rubber is good at blocking because it is bouncy. Playing far-court and middle-court is easier than with the Battle 2 Max Pro. Push and short game are still very much manageable. Note: You need to play the rubber for 2-3 sessions before it breaks in and performs well. Sep 26, 2026

Yinhe Big Dipper 5

Review of Yinhe Big Dipper 5I have been using Big Dipper V for nearly a year. For context, I'm just an amateur; my version is 38 degrees, and it weighs around 45g when cut. I used this as a backhand rubber on flexible Loki Kirin K5 and stiff Loki Kirin K7.Drive, flick and push are the best respects of the rubber. It's tacky, not bouncy so push is low spinny, this combines with ample dwell so you have an easy flick. Backhand drive and rip packs lots of power and spin, the throw angle is low(I won lots of points thanks to this). Low throw also means that the rubber won't help you lift against the backspin: BD is not forgiving; you need to select your shot and know when to brush to clear the net. Big Dipper V has therefore taught me a lot about how to drive, rip, and loop with my backhand. If you love Chinese BH techniques, this rubber can teach you. It is also quite durable.
