Battle 2 Gold compared to Battle 2, it has a special rubber topsheet which is more flexible, bounier and has a softer touch. The sponge hardness and thickness have been increased.
UPdated! - I still haven't completely finished testing this rubber, but one thing I already consider a fact: THIS rubber is completely overrated!!! ... neither catapult, nor speed, nor spin are anywhere near as high as indicated in the table!!! ( - at least not without boosting.) I bought my first rubber of this type for 14 € at Aliexpress !!! Whenever I get a rubber that I already owned in black in red and then find a sponge in a different color, I get a bad feeling. ... because often enough, the rubber was significantly different from the black one! - I'm very curious to see how it performs this time. Facts: this rubber is slightly sticky and can only hold the ball for a short moment, but it is very grippy! Red rubber, 40 degrees, 2.15 mm: weight in orig. pack. 101 g., uncut with film 68 g. 1. Black rubber, same hardness and thickness: orig. pack. 102.4 g., unc. film 68 g., cut 49 g. 2. one: 100.4 g. and ... 66 g. ...cut 47 g. - both by 157x150 mm. ... sequel follows.
The Battle 2 Gold rubber is a great rubber for $10 ( AliExpress ) for intermediate and advanced players. Strong spins, high speed and good control. Surprisingly very low price.
Battle 2 Gold is easily one of the best Chinese-style offensive rubbers I’ve played with. I see it as a Chinese version of Butterflys Dignics 09C or ESNs Rakza Z EH. You get a similarly high spin ceiling and strong bite on the ball, but with a more traditional tacky topsheet and a slightly more predictable engagement. D09C gives better spin in mid-gear. You have to work abit more to get the most out of B2G. It has that Hurricane-style spin, yet with more natural liveliness and medium-high throw that makes it noticeably more forgiving.
The topspin is excellent. Opening against backspin feels safe and heavy, and from mid distance the ball dips hard with a lot of rotation. For a Chinese rubber, the throw is relatively high, which gives a comfortable arc while still keeping that classic diving effect when you commit to the stroke.
The downsides are mainly the weight and the technical demands. This is not a rubber that helps you when you play passively, and it is not built for flat hitters or pushers. You have to be active and use proper technique. To get the full speed you have to accelerate hard. Hitting counter with this rubbers is a dream. You use the incoming speed and hitting it with full force = The lively sponge works at 100%.
I am currently playing Battle 2 Gold on both forehand and backhand on a Nittaku Acoustic Carbon Inner, and the combination works surprisingly well. The blade’s stability and medium throw match the rubber perfectly and create a modern, spin-heavy game built on precision rather than free speed.
