My current backhand rubber, I love it. Not too expensive and lasts a decent amount of time. My backhand used to be my weakest and most inconsistent part of my game, now I am able to counter-loop with ease and lay down some very accurate and powerful topspins.
in my search for a rubber that does everything well, I found one that does just about everything...sub-averagely.
I was initially attracted to this rubber because it's heralded as a "classic" style rubber, able to handle the down and dirty slow stuff that modern manufacturers seem to forget in their quest to make the game harder to play for beginners.
it certainly is that. on a first bounce impression, just a hair slower than a sriver but much less lively than a modern rubber.
then I tried playing with it.
now, don't get me wrong. it's a lovely rubber. well made, well packaged, pretty sponge and topsheet etc etc. it just didn't quite live up to it's immediate competitors.
I'd read that the harder you play with it, the better it gets. meaning you'd have to dig past your limit of skill before you'd find the treasure.
and I tried.
I pulled out everything I had, every last drop of skill.
I asked everything from this rubber and just didn't get it.
pushes just didn't have any spin. flicks didn't have any zing. slow blocking was great because of the wonderful control, but faster blocks didn't pose any difficulty at all. my serves and topspin were unsatisfactory. chops landed where I wanted, but were returned promptly without any effort. even on flat smashes, where I normally obliterate and expected to find the promised land of performance, just didn't quite have the velocity I'd expect.
in summary, I didn't find the promised land. it's got oodles of control, but nothing a mark v doesn't have. spin was lacklustre, and speed was...well, it certainly doesn't add anything. it might be worth trying if you are much more into the ALL- to pure defense range than I am, because it simply wasn't what I was looking for. it's close to a sriver but doesn't quite have that magic to it. the mark v is much more dynamic does everything better, even in the modern era.

AFAIK, it's supposed to be a repackaged Nodias, which was supposed to replace the old JO Waldner.
