There are 3 users using the Sanwei Gear Hyper Hard.
The rather compact sponge creates only a small catapult effect when the ball is not hit too hard. However, at high compression of the sponge (i. e. with vigorous strokes), it unfolds a very good dynamic. The combination with the high-quality topsheet makes the Gear Hyper a unique offensive rubber: It provides very high friction and precision, enables dangerous serves and offers high control when playing over the table. During topspin rallies near the table and from mid-distance, on the other hand, it provides high speed. While many other dynamic offensive rubbers lack control when playing over the table due to their high catapult effect, the Gear Hyper is much more effective in these situations.
The Gear Hyper has a rather unique feel, making it difficult to exactly compare this rubber to other rubbers. Compared to other modern offensive rubbers (such as the Omega VII, Rhyzer/Dynaryz, Tenergy, DNA, Evolution), the Gear Hyper offers much more control in short strokes. However, especially when playing opening topspins against backspin strokes, it requires a lot more effort. When playing over the table, the Gear Hype can be compared to modern Chinese premium rubbers with more or less tacky topsheets, such as the Hurricane 8, Battle II (Soft), Target National, etc., providing similar control and precision. However, during open rallies (especially from mid-distance), the Gear Hyper is a lot more dynamic than these blades.
Who the Gear Hyper is for:
The Gear Hyper is Sanwei’s new high-end rubber with premium quality, specially aimed at modern attackers on a professional level. In general, though especially in the hard variant, the Gear Hyper is well-suited for the forehand of spin-oriented offensive players, for whom other modern offensive blades are too elastic and uncontrolled when returning serves and when playing over the table.
UPDATED!!! - Question: Why are rubbers constantly rated without specifying which blade (which type: inner, outer, solid wood!) they were tested on? While detailed descriptions are often available, the blade used is often not mentioned. However, the combination with the "right" blade is fundamental! ( - thank you for your review dear ROTA!!!) The rubber tested here is, in my opinion, the best example of this. Initially, it was the second biggest disappointment for me this year! :-( Facts: Black rubber, 2.1 mm, 95 g in original packaging, 62 g uncut and 47 g (157 x 150 mm) cut. Sponge hardness 39 degrees. (Chinese) ... Catapult and speed are acceptable, the spin (- on my various synthetic blades!) is unfortunately only mediocre! ... that's why I chose a solid wood blade, the Palio B-21. - a hard and fast, very inexpensive offensive blade. The rubber performs really well on this blade. The spin values are now significantly higher and the control is significantly better. Only the speed has suffered minimally. (- a Dig. 09c performs significantly worse on this blade than this Sanwei rubber!!! ;-P) Conclusion: I could very well imagine a combination of the Palio B-21, the Gear Hyper Hard (FH) and the softer version (BH). (- which would also be very interesting in terms of price!) This setup is available on AliExpress for around 60 €! Whether you're a beginner or advanced player, the B-21 and Hyper Hard are worth a try! Note: I haven't included all values in the table, because I find this rubber very difficult in general. On the Palio blade I play with, I give it (compared to my other ratings!) 9.2 for speed, 9.4 for spin, and 9.6 for control. Addendum: I've also now bought the softer version of this rubber, and it seems to perform by far the best on the Palio B-1 as well. - However, it's unfortunately 5g heavier in its uncut state and, together with the hard version, would result in a rather high weight!
Blue medium-hard weighs 43g cut. Throw angle, Speed and spin are very similar to Rozena. I can switch between this rubber and Rozena no problem, which is great for the price (15 USD). Unfortunately, after two weeks, the topsheet grip significantly decreased and the ball started slipping a lot in humid conditions. I would not recommend it for that reason, but maybe it is only the Blue color that has this problem. I used it for backhand on ZJK ALC.
First of all, the average spin rating is far to low. This rubber is amongst the spinniest, I´ve played, including T 05 Hard. The big difference compared to other high end rubbers, is that it`s very controlled, in service, return and the short game and the placement is far above average. This rubber is made for precision. It definitely has less base speed, than tensors and alike, but it is far faster than untuned chinese rubbers, and when you acticate the sponge it also allows for very high speed, but it doesn`t have many gears. One could say theres only two gears. First gear is very controlled in the dimensions mentioned, and blocking and the second gear is Hyper:-) Honestly, you may have to find the right technique to powerfully open the game on backspin, which is absolutely doable, but once the ball is in the open game, you can really speed up heavily. It`s the third GH I´m using (one was regular) and I clearly prefer the hard version (all max. sponge). So if you want to pressure your opponent close to the table with viscious serves, pushes and loaded openings and then contnue with highspin or high speed precisicion, this is the weapon - abd the best hybrid for that cause I`ve played so far and outlasts the latter easily. I´m not sure, if maybe a stiff blade is a nescessity (I´ve played it on four different blades but liked it most on my Ultracarbon Innerlayer 5+2, but I´m really a fan for my kind of usage. It is for sure a rubber with it`s own character, but it gives you very honest answers on what you are doing and finally filled the gap, the plastic balls left for my game.
I've been using this rubber as my main BH rubber for some time. I use it normally on inner carbon blades with either limba, koto or hinoki outer ply. Both cases play similar, I used H39. I also had it on one outer ALC koto blade, although I used softer H37 version. I all cases I was very happy with it. It has everything I needed from BH rubber, great spin (even on serve it is good considering the surface is completely non-tacky), great control and quite good speed. There is some bounciness, but not visible in short game when you use passive strokes so serve receive is quite easy with it. On harder strokes the speed is really good, there is small catapult effect, but not big (I don't like ESN tensors on BH because of too much catapult destroying control). If you prefer reasonably fast BH rubber, but still the one where you have control over how much speed you get - it is for you. I tried it also on FH, but there I prefer even more linear rubbers like Goldarc 5 or Rakza 7.
The bad sides: the rubber quite easily crumbles on the edges, but it mostly happens for me with red colored one, edges of black were little better. I use either wider edge tape or two layers of edge tape to completely cover side of rubber to prevent this.
All above describes rubber with big G on the cover. I also twice bought on ali rubber of the same name with big gear on the cover. Once I got rubber with same quality and once I got the apparently counterfeit one. It had same markings and number, but was very tacky and slow like ordinary chinese rubber. Since that I am only buying on official sanwei store.
