DONIC ACUDA BLUE

A pleasure to play with

P1 (50° medium hard), P2 (45° medium soft), P3 (40°super soft)

A pleasure to play with, a rubber to be at ease with.
The latest in sponge technology. This blue sponge with medium sized pores is softer than previous sponges, despite having a higher degree of hardness.
A new pimple geometry: Thin long pimples with extra space between individual pimples.
The latest generation in top surface rubber: grippy, as with Bluefire M1 Turbo and JP 01 Turbo but with slightly flatter ball arc
Ball return is excellent: Maximum control, a satisfying sound and so easy to play with.
Fine touch – suitable for every playing standard (depending on sponge thickness and degree of hardness).

The ACUDA BLUE series, DONIC’s latest rubber development, is a joy to play with, a rubber to be absolutely at ease with. Developed with the latest technology, the medium pored blue sponge feels somewhat softer than previous sponges despite having a higher degree.

The top surface has a brand-new pimple geometry – longer, thinner pimples with extra space between individual pimples enhance the control of this rubber. As a result it is easier to play with and one has greater feel without any loss of high speed or spin.

This series is available in three proven versions:
ACUDA BLUE P1 - medium hard, the dynamic attacking version

New pimple geometry
Excellent ball return
Medium hard, the dynamic attacking version
For all out attackers

Sponge thickness: 1.8 / 2.0 / max
Sponge hardness: medium +
Top surface: spin-elastic
Control 7-, speed 10+, spin 10+++
Category: OFF / OFF+

I got my new black sheet in max yesterday and glued it up with water glue and allowed it to dry under a click press for an entire day. Again, I had heard the sponge was the same blue sponge used in Bluefire but to my eyes , the grain is finer and it appears less porous working from memory. I didn't detect any booster smell like in some of Bluefires ,nor did I detect any residue whatsoever. The sheet was flat, there did not appear to be any curl, convex or concave at all. Donic says the sponge is a degree or two harder than the S1 and I concur. Its just a wee bit heavier than the S1 but it's not Bluefire or T05 heavy. the topcoat is soft, thin and the pimples are thin and flexible. the overall feel is not hard , the sponge and rubber combine to give a medium feel. Now bear in mind I have an injury (did I say thanks Adam?), I could only play at about 70% power so I will reserve judgement on the top end performance of the rubber if and when my shoulder mends. I always loved Acuda S1 and I thought the blue sponge in BFJP was cool, so I wasn't surprised that they sort of combined them. Its a marketing winner, but is it a winner-winner? For me, trying out a new rubber is like a courtship, is it a slow burning romance, love at first sight? hmm. Speedwise and feel wise, its like a better, more well behaved Acuda S1: stripped of its catapult top end trampoline engine, replaced with a bigger, better more efficient engine that gets to top end without so much noise. Huh? The S1 catapult has been replaced in the P1 with a linear flatter response perfectly capable of getting to top speed without relying on rubber and sponge elasticity instead more coming from sponge density and overall mass and therefore giving a more predictable and controllable response over the range of speeds. I put it at speed equal or slightly faster overall than Acuda S1.

I tested the Acuda Blue P1 for approximately four or five training sessions on a Butterfly Harimoto ZLC blade. By that point I already had plenty of experience with the original Acuda S series, so I was interested in finding out whether the Blue P1 was a genuine step forward or simply a different interpretation of a familiar formula. Unfortunately, I found it to be a step backward. My biggest problem was the lack of a clear, defined feeling on contact. Hitting the ball felt almost like hitting it into a gummy candy: soft, vague, and with very little useful feedback. Close to the table and at mid-distance it was reasonably playable, but nothing stood out. Farther from the table, it started to feel distinctly underpowered. For something positioned as an offensive rubber, it never gave me the decisive attacking response I was looking for. The original Acuda S family was not perfect, but it had character. I particularly liked the S1 Turbo and S2; even the S3 was a perfectly respectable rubber. The standard S1 was probably the weakest of that range for me, yet all of them were fundamentally usable attacking rubbers. I expected the revised sponge and topsheet geometry of the Blue P1 to build on that foundation, especially for the plastic-ball era. Instead, the changes seemed to work against each other. Although the P1 has a nominally 47.5-degree sponge, its topsheet felt too soft for that sponge. On impact, I could feel the topsheet yielding first, followed by a delayed and poorly integrated response from the sponge. The result was not a satisfying, unified rebound. Sometimes the ball seemed to drop off the racket unexpectedly. At other times, a stroke that should have produced a powerful, high-quality attack gave me little more than a modest increase in speed. Extra pace is not particularly useful if the quality and reliability of the shot are missing. Overall, the Acuda Blue P1 was a clear disappointment. After four or five sessions, I had seen enough and moved on.

easy rubber to play with especially with the current polly ball.. very easy to loop the 40+ ball , and spin I felt like wont go wrong using this rubber.. but it's hard to play in long distance.. using this rubber on fh n bh

Very good rubber, both in fh and bh. Has great speed and touch, giving excellent control to it. Update: Had the opportunity to play with it again. The speed is there, the spin is there, medium throw, but it shines in control, amazing. Kinda soft.

Cut has 45 gr. Low arch, and for this seems a little a chinese rubber like Skyline neo TG3, with more bouncing. Same spin as TG3. Much more control, because more linear than TG3. I have Blue P1 turbo as well, and it is much more faster. I used to play with a Blue fire JP 01 turbo. It's arch is higher, so to my game I prefer Blue Fire JP01T. The problem is that blue fire is heavier, 50 gr cut, and for RBP wheight is very important.
